Technology & Innovation
The LBCT Pier E redevelopment project is combining two aging shipping terminals into the greenest, most technologically advanced container terminal in the world. The new terminal, at full build out will have more than double the capacity of the two terminals it replaces and cut air pollution by more than half. Working together with the Port Of Long Beach, LBCT has been able to implement the aggressive environmental measures of the Green Port Policy and San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan. To improve air quality and reduce environmental impacts, the New LBCT terminal includes:
- Shore power for ships to reduce emissions while alongside
- Dual Hoist Tandem Lift Quay Cranes
- Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for Vessel, Rail, and Gate transactions
- Expanded on-dock rail to shift more cargo shipments from trucks to trains
- Electric stacking cranes
- Storm water pollution prevention
- Solar panels
- All LEED Certified Buildings
- Battery Powered Horizontal Transport
With some of the largest cranes in the world, a berth length over 4200 feet and a 76’/23m channel draft- 60’/18.3m alongside LBCT will be able to handle the biggest ships on the water today and any that are being contemplated for the future. We are also building one of the largest on dock rail facilities in North America which will reduce truck traffic in and around the ports dramatically. We here at LBCT are proud of our achievements and are looking toward the future and creating a new way to do business.
